Friends of the NJ Legacy Foundation
Dear Family and Friends,
I hope that this finds you well. My name is Robin R.C. W. Johnson. I am writing about two Juneteenth Weekend programs sponsored by the Friends of the New Jersey Legacy Foundation. By way of background, “Friends” is an organization comprised of a diverse mix of distinguished and committed Black Women, whose primary focus is shining a spotlight on the humanistic, creative and innovative work of the African American Community. Elizabeth Funeral Director, Kim Nesbitt Good, the founder of Friends of the New Jersey Legacy Foundation, deliberately structured the organization’s mission to ensure that the advancements made by African Americans were demonstrated with great pride and cultural agility.
Each year, Friends host an intergeneration Juneteenth celebration which draws a plethora of intergenerational celebrants from throughout the state. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 crisis, this year’s celebration will be different. This year’s Celebration will begin on Friday June 19th, at 7:00 PM with a live Virtual Prayer Service Live on Face book. (Please see the flyer attached.)
It will continue on Sunday, June 21st, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM when Friends and 16 churches and community partners throughout the state host a free grab and go dinner for their communities. The celebration will conclude later that afternoon with a virtual program streaming on Face Book Live between 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM featuring: Lt. Governor Shelia Y. Oliver, Judge Glenda Hachette, Roland Martin and a musical presentation by Rev. Stef & Jubilation.
We are hoping that you will assist us in spreading the word to our community by posting the information on your social media platforms. Please contact me at 908 964 6608 if you have any questions.
I am looking forward to speaking with you soon.
Peace & Blessings,
